My album - ON SALE NOW!
As you may know, I have been working on an album for quite a long time! It's finally ready to drop, and I'm delighted to say it has been signed by Swiss funk label Pig Balls Records for worldwide release in December.

Here's what people have been saying about it so far:
"A rousing sermon of finely chopped beats and intricately layered samples, all hail Bristol's 'vicar of funk!'" - Parker (Rocstar / Goodgroove / Jalapeno)
"Ewan Hoozami manages to use classic hip hop MPC production styles while also dishing up a fresh and progressive sound... An impressive debut that has been in my shows all summer" - DJ Cheeba (Solid Steel / Rane)
"a quality album of well put together samples and punchy beats, something for the head and dancefloor, top stuff" - Aldo Vanucci (Good Living Records)
"Strictly breaks, dancefloor bombs and crafty sample workouts from the king of the chopped beat. Lurve it" - DJ Moneyshot (Solid Steel/Big M/Proto Hype Records)
It's ON SALE now at all good online stores, so go grab a copy today!

Nice review of my album here - CLICK
EWAN HOOZAMI: Wildebeats LP – 2010
It’s ‘next generation’ time for the Bristol sound as rising producer Ewan Hoozami, (like Parker before him) batters on the genre’s door with his refix of the mild, mild west’s beats n’ bass heavy sonic template for the dubstep and nufunk/ ghettofunk era. Basically that means tempos are up, percussive patterns are a little more detailed, basslines go wonky and the dancefloor is invaded more times in one album than in Massive Attack’s entire back catalogue.
Wildebeats is an eleven-tracker that veers from dreamy soundscapes to funky uptempo dancefloor breaks and everything in between. Opener Déjà Vu brings a thunderous bassline that alone sets the tone for the LP but is augmented with big drums, a hammond loop and a wealth of vocal samples. Next up is Tijuanasaurus Rex which demonstrates Hoozami’s signature heavily-syncopated breakbeats while Hopscotch heads into ‘nu-skool breakz’ territory and Falcon Punch recalls The Prodigy in their less cheesy moments. Stand-outs are the classy Soul Step which, as the title implies, comes on like dubstep might if it was made in the late sixties in New Orleans, the crazy-heavy scattershot funky-soul breaks and dusty vocal sample of the crowd-pleasing Drinking Song and the even crazier scattershot percussion of Love Loves Karaoke which rinses a sample of Professor Longhair’s ancient funk 45 Big Chief. Then he goes and wraps things up with something much more along the lines of the mid-nineties Bristol sound – the chilled hip-hop of All Quiet showcasing the vocal talents of rapper Blacksmith.
I’m still not sure if you pronounce the title with a long ‘i’ like in ‘wild beast’ or with a short-one as in ‘wildebeest’ as the (rather nice) cover art would suggest but I imagine big beat hunters everywhere will want to track down and acquire this particular piece of musical game to show off on whatever device people play their music on these days…Press guff below links…

RIP Eyedea
Just heard the tragic news that Eyedea has died at the age of 28. Seriously shocked and saddened, the guy was one of the most talented freestylers of all time. I can't believe how young he still was - he's put out so much great music. I must have listened to the Wake up freestyle session a hundred times. Here it is:
Smile:
RIP Eyedea, you will be missed.

A delightful review of my recent downtempo EP:

"Bristol's very own vicar of funk Ewan Hoozami is best known for his congregation-rousing party jams. This new seven track EP catches him in a more reflective frame of mind, unbuttoning his cassocks for some after-hours downtempo business.
Following the doomy, bestial grunt of 'BRM' with the queasy sweetness of 'Gazi Strip', there's something unsettlingly soul-searching about this record from the off. Highlights include the brooding angst-hop of 'Hope', the heartbroken beach-crawl of 'All Quiet' and the cinematic, horn-laden strut of 'Level'. The pay-off is saved for the end, though, as 'Sunny' peeks optimistically from behind the clouds. Taking it's Georgie Fame piano break from a cover of the Bobby Hebb standard, 'Sunny' steps and skanks it's way to redemption. A must-grab for admirers of DJ Krush, Coldcut and Nightmares on Wax, 'Mildebeats' is only available as a free download. Get your late night gear here!"

Not mention a shedload of mates to get battered with!
I was lucky enough to play several sets over the weekend - in the amazing Asbo Disco Community Centre tent, in the incredible 'Downtown' area, and on the Main Stage on the Saturday afternoon - with Powercut, my Funk From the Trunk homie.
The Downtown area was basically a fake street of amazing little venues and installations - big party styles in every one! I played 3 absolutely rinsing sets over the course of the weekend, pure vibes!
And playing Main Stage to a few hundred happy campers was a treat!
Big up Boomtown Fair, roll on next year!

BIG M PRODUCTIONS: Banging Artists Vol. 6
7 AUGUST 2010

It’s ‘Volume 6’ o’clock in Nufunk land at the minute and Big M beat Manmade Records to the draw by dint of fact that this is already out. Funnily enough Manmade label bosses CMC & Silenta turn up on the first track on which they give Papa Was A Rolling Stone a disco-breakin makeover. Then you’ve got Breakbeat Junkie throwing a multitude of ingredients into the nufunk melting pot and Hayz feeding beat steroids to the Happy Mondays. So far, so nufunk by numbers. Happily Ewan Hoozami rocks up at the end with the beefy Drinking Song, a collision of hefty scattershot drums, chopped up ancient scratchy vocal and a cheeky little homage to Rage Against The Machine after a ridiculously long breakdown. Watch this man!

First festivals of the summer!
About to set off for Llama Festival in Devon - my first time - I'm told it's a fantastic, intimate festival spread across several venues and two villages on the coast of Devon. Fingers crossed for some sunshine! FFTT, our good friend Boca 45 and the Fajita Funk crew will be ripping it up at the Festival's official opening party tonight! Can't wait!
Then tomorrow I'll be heading to the Isle of Wight Festival, to watch England destroy USA on the big screen - fingers crossed! - before I play The Strongbow Stage on Sunday afternoon!
Then next week my awesome band Syte and The Sound, fresh from tearing it up at UPfest on Sunday, will be opening up on the BBL stage at the Beach Break Festival, on Thursday 17th June.
As if that wasn't enough, Reading dwellers can see me at the Global Sounds cafe performing a solo DJ set on Friday 18th June, followed by a reunion with my FFTT family at the Big Chill Bar, Bristol on Saturday 19th june!
Gona need a lot of Red Bull!
