"Bristol's very own vicar of funk Ewan Hoozami is best known for his congregation-rousing party jams. This new seven track EP catches him in a more reflective frame of mind, unbuttoning his cassocks for some after-hours downtempo business.
Following the doomy, bestial grunt of 'BRM' with the queasy sweetness of 'Gazi Strip', there's something unsettlingly soul-searching about this record from the off. Highlights include the brooding angst-hop of 'Hope', the heartbroken beach-crawl of 'All Quiet' and the cinematic, horn-laden strut of 'Level'. The pay-off is saved for the end, though, as 'Sunny' peeks optimistically from behind the clouds. Taking it's Georgie Fame piano break from a cover of the Bobby Hebb standard, 'Sunny' steps and skanks it's way to redemption. A must-grab for admirers of DJ Krush, Coldcut and Nightmares on Wax, 'Mildebeats' is only available as a free download. Get your late night gear here!"
