About:

I'm a DJ, producer, crate-digger, MPC basher, vocalist and all-round good egg by the name of Ewan Hoozami.
I've been played on BBC Radio 6, Solid Steel Radio, Radio Popolare (Italy), and BBC Introducing, released music on Pedigree Cuts, Goodgroove Records, Big M and many more, and DJ'd all over the UK and Europe.
I loosely centre my music around Funk, Hip-hop, Disco and Soul. I love basslines. And drums.
When I'm not doing Ewan Hoozami stuff I can be found doing the following (deep breath):
Running Particle Zoo Recordings
Writing & performing:
House/bass as STEGA
Wonky electronic hip-hop as Sirklz
Bassweight remixes of cult classics as one half of Box Rocket
Analogue sci-fi disco as one half of The Mind-Reading Space Lasers.

Ewan Hoozami artist profile on Ghetto Funk.co.uk

For my money, these guys are the market leaders in the heavy, funky, bassy beats and breaks genre, so I am really proud that they chose to profile me on their site... check it here

Stunning FREE track from Hidden Orchestra

It's not always party-rocking up in here... sometimes you gots to chill!
Hidden Orchestra - The Burning Circle by Tru Thoughts
This is a sumptuos track by the incredible Hidden Orchestra, plus additional production by DJ Slepton (GREAT DJ name!) I had the pleasure of seeing a stripped back incarnation of HO recently, and it was flipping incredible. Definitely one of my favourite exponents of dusty jazz-hop... and with no fewer than two drummers and two bassists (one cello), what's not to love?

Skanking new Blend Mishkin ish!

IM001 - Lyrical Jam EP by Irish Moss Records

I must admit despite the Pogues and Riverdance I never really thought of Ireland as much of a powerhouse musical nation. I know they've got a passionate history of fiddles and jigs, but it's not really my bag. The only time i went to Dublin the streets were crawling with day-glo Irish gurners who had apparently been to see some house DJ called Fergie. So I guess somewhere along the way my perception of Irish music got tainted. (I don't think U2 and The Corrs helped much either).
Anyway turns out I don't have a clue!
Recent output from Dirty Dubsters, Johhny Pluse and their labelmates have been nothing short of world-class funk, reggae, swing and even DnB - and I can't remember the last time I played a set that didn't feature at least one of their tracks.
So, when I received the press release for a new label called Irish Moss, featuring a remix by Dirty Dubsters, I was understandably intrigued.
Irish Moss 001 actually features the prolific Greek producer Blend Mishkin, whose sterling work with Parov Stelar, plus dope remixes for Dirty Dubsters and many more has already earnt him plenty of plaudits from the international party beats community.
The B-side consists of remixes by Liondub and, again, Dirty Dubsters (do they not sleep?), and are equally dope.

Released on Juno Download on Feb 23rd, go grab it!

DJ Cheeba's superlative-defying AV MIx has dropped!

DJ Cheeba - Revenge of The Nerd from Solid Steel on Vimeo.

Fans of having their tiny mind's blown straight out of the universe should definitely be checking this... an utterly supreme mix that (yet again) totally changes the game. This is future DJing. And of course I'm more than made up that one of my tracks managed to sneak it's way onto the mix!

Here's the blurb and tracklisting:

In 2010, DJ Cheeba's first audio visual mix 'The Reels of Solid Steel' set a new level of progression for DJs. Now in 2011 he returns with the next episode... 'Revenge Of The Nerd'. A quick fire, attention frying, mash of sure fire club hits, stone cold classics, countless acapellas and turntable tricknology, all set to a visual feast of music videos, pop culture cameos, kung fu interludes and cinematic delights. Mixed with incredible flair and imagination, this is another bench mark in contemporary DJ culture. As Cheeba puts it... "It's cut and paste sound and pictures for people with open minds and short attention spans."

More heat from The Dirty Dubsters!

Dirty Dubsters Feat. Bass Nacho Mr. Brown boot by DirtyDubsters

More heat from the Dirty Dubsters camp! Check the press guff:

After Dirty Dubsters and Bass Nacho's last collaboration together "Big Tings", permanently tattooed itself onto the cerebellums of dub savvy clubbers across the globe, the only real way to possibly top it is to enlist the talents of the most Reggae on high himself, the all conquering Bob Marley.

The rapid fire lyrical skills of Floridian Bass Nacho are launched into the stratosphere with a beefed up behemoth of bass line half inched from Mr Marley but with the Dirty Dubsters signature skanking hip hop sound stamped all over it.

On the Flip side we have Athens based bad man Blend Mishkin who switches up styles for his remix, taking the track down a deeper, funkier but no less skanking dub house path.

A very limited release 7” vinyl is due for release in March 2011 on BreakDown Records, Distributed through Kudos and available in all good record shops world wide.

My latest track... pretty damn sick!

Moneyshot with a massive re-fix of a monstrous Zed's Dead tune

Zed's Dead - Rudeboy (DJ Moneyshot 110 Edit) by DJ-Moneyshot

For those that don't know, Zed's Dead are a production duo from Canada that have gained worldwide notoriety for their face-melting remixes of unlikely songs (Grime remix of Sublime, anyone?). Anyway they come highly recommended from ya boy Hoozami, go check them out here http://soundcloud.com/zedsdead

And my apparently not Welsh homie Moneyshot has given one of their bestest tunes a '110 bpm-isualisation' and popped it up for diggedy download... And it's predictably badass.
